Excellent Social Storm™ Property with Great Privacy & Security
The EarthCraft Home is an Architectural Masterpiece Designed to Fit the Land
“Edge Valley” is a private valley just north of Columbus, Georgia which features one of the few “EarthCraft” designed homes in the area. Certified as the “Gold Standard” the 6,170 +/- sq ft home not only fits the land but also boasts some of the most energy savings and environmentally friendly materials money can buy. The private 111 wooded acres surround the 14.5-acre lake. The wooded hillsides, streams, and meadows are unique to this beautiful area. Wild game is plentiful. The property is exceptional as a private estate or Social Storm Property™.
The landowner thoughtfully laid out the custom home with everything she would want… and then Grandchildren called her away! The “EarthCraft” home is strategically positioned on the NE side of the lake. Although the Edge family has been in Columbus for six generations, the seller is very private.
The home features a grand outdoor pavilion complete with an outdoor fireplace, and sweeping wraparound porches from the backside of the home. Uniquely, a large amount of the wood and stone was pulled directly from what is now the lake bottom, kiln-dried, and used throughout, including the Red & White Oak Floors, Cupola Ceiling Beams, Poplar Interior Doors, and Trim Work. Intricate wood detail, Red Oak, White Oak, and Hickory are seen in the remainder of the house, including the entrance living room and porch timber frame structure, ceiling beams and kitchen cabinetry, among other details. Under beautiful beams, the grand stone "Goat Rock" fireplace warmly lights the living room. One of the most interesting features of the home is a clear in-laid flooring feature which provides plenty of natural sunlight to the first floor, and a clear view of the cupola above. A commercial-grade sink and oven, Blue Gray Granite Island, and open concept kitchen make cooking a joy and is great for entertaining and family.
While the home currently is comprised of 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, there is space and plumbing to build an additional bedroom and bathroom in the basement floor level, should the new landowner desire. The current landowner also has plans (and matching Marvin Windows) for a Mother-in-law suite to be built adjacent to the home.
For those unfamiliar with an “EarthCraft" designation, what it means is that the home is certified that it is sourced, constructed, and designed to reduce environmental impacts, while also saving homeowners a projected 30 percent on their energy bills. As such, the home features solar power, earthen basement floors, geothermal HVAC, and geothermal wells. The home is designed so that much of the house can be heated from the basement stove with fans, and with the press of a button, the windows in the cupola provide for air exchange. This home has achieved the very difficult “Gold Standard” rating.
Additional improvements/features include an upstairs two-car garage, a lower level enclosed two-car garage/work shop, a separate metal building with enclosed parking, pole barn and shed, and a pump house for the well.
The 14.5-acre pond has a boat ramp and boardwalk/dock out into the lake, making fishing a breeze, and the lake is well-stocked with Florida Hybrid Bass and Crappie. The lake dam and spillway are exceptionally designed, and great care was taken to provide fish habitat structure throughout the lake. The property has 550 to 430-foot elevation and is mixed pine and hardwood forest. There are approximately 1.5 +/- miles of trails and several creeks. The property has deer, turkey, and ducks. Hunters will enjoy two strategically placed shoot houses, and a convenient deer-cleaning station just outside the home, with a mudroom for post-hunt clean-ups. Also, just outside the home is a fenced-in garden (fenced so the deer population does not interfere with growing crops).
Edge Valley is an exceptionally secure property and has great privacy and good neighbors. It is a highly ranked Social Storm property. Thoughtfully laid out in case of an emergency, a cedar-lined walk-in closet with a lockable gunroom hides a crawl space that is accessible in two directions. Additionally, positioned not far off the gated front entrance is an underground storage bunker.
The natural beauty of Edge Valley beckons. While tucked away among wild nature, steep hillsides, and heavy forests, Edge Valley is also conveniently located to town amenities, dining, and shopping. The famed Chattahoochee River is about a mile and a half west and offers a long promenade for walking or biking along the riverside. Brookstone Private School and Sam's Club are only 15 minutes away. Columbus, GA (20 minutes away) offers unique local history, arts, entertainment, and a thriving food scene. Both before the pandemic and now, Columbus has been regarded as one of the great new cities of the South. It has an exceptional business climate, a great economic base, and great outdoor recreation nearby. It’s exactly the type of city that young growing companies relocate to. The Columbus Airport is only 20 minutes away and offers exceptional private flight access. There is also a convenient airport shuttle service to and from the Atlanta International Airport (which is only one hour and twenty minutes away for added accessibility/travel).
The time, planning, and cost to build this home today vs its turn-key condition is unmeasurable. The lake, in fact, could not be duplicated today at any cost. Trying to find a private valley within 25 minutes of any city or airport would be next to impossible.

From murky farm ponds to pristine glacier-cut lakes and everything in between, Knox Daniels’ expertise stems from a lifelong fascination of water and the creatures that live in and around it. He recognizes and helps clients appreciate the value water features bring to a property. “My goal is to help buyers realize and sellers maximize the value different water bodies bring to a property, not only in a recreational sense, but also for social storm reasons.” After extensively traveling the country for collegiate BASS fishing tournaments, Knox graduated and worked for the Southeast’s finest fisheries and wildlife biologist, Greg Grimes. With Grimes’ company, AES, Knox managed many of the southeast’s finest private lake estate/impoundment properties, and learned the intricacies of upscale property management. Learning from Greg and other biologists, Knox honed in on the specific conditions and habitat needed for optimal gamefish growth in private lakes. He has also worked as a property manager on several thousand acres and for a commercial developer, facilitating the dirt work and builds of several apartment complexes, but his true passion has always been in the outdoors. “I’ve always had an insatiable fascination with ponds/lakes and am grateful to be able to help to place clients on the properties of their dreams and make their personal fisheries/wildlife goals reality with JKA.” – Knox Daniels
Jason has been assisting landowners for the last 28 years in Georgia and South Carolina obtain achievements the owners did not realize were possible. His degree in Biology from Georgia Southern stemmed from the desire to know how things in nature work. His plantation roots began at just 16 years old outside of Albany, GA and the last 20 years were spent in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. His entire career has been spent developing a global approach to plantation management. That plan included sales. Sales is in Jason’s blood- his mom had a 45-year career as a real estate broker. After college, he chose to pursue his passion of making properties great. In 2011, Jason sold his first plantation. Since then, he has assisted buyers and sellers with over $20 million in sales while most of that time working as a full-time General Manager of a large Lowcountry plantation. Today, he is committed to using his unique skill set and experience to guide landowners through the many challenges of plantation ownership.

Hailing from a long line of outdoorsmen, Tim learned a great deal from his father and grandfather. He saw first-hand what it means to be a good land steward. He believes land is so much more than a place to hunt, fish, and grow timber or crops. “It’s an identity, a resting place, a safe haven and a way of life, said Tim.” Tim’s family ties to Alabama run deep. During his grandfather’s first term, Governor James was responsible for signing into law Alabama’s first state duck stamp which helped to ensure funding for the procurement, development, and preservation of wetlands for migratory waterfowl habitat. He also established Alabama’s lifetime hunting license, so it is no surprise that Tim is an avid outdoorsman with a keen eye as to how best to improve habitat for the greater good of its wildlife.
With Madison County roots, Lori grew up on her family farm at Pettis Springs along the historic Aucilla River. A love of the land was instilled in Lori very early on by her father who was a local farmer. Lori understands the importance of good land stewardship and has witnessed first-hand how her own father, a former 2-term member of the Florida House of Representatives whose district encompassed many rural counties of the Red Hills Plantation Region, with a little bit of sweat equity, so lovingly worked their own family land. These are core values she carries with her today, and nothing gives her more personal satisfaction than to represent some of the south’s best land stewards.
Cole’s dedication to land management lies in his family roots. As a fourth-generation timber expert, Cole’s earliest memories were spent with his father managing timber investments. With a degree in Food Resource Economics from the University of Florida, Cole is the epitome of an up-and-coming leader. He grew up with a hands-on approach to learning land management and conservation and has spent the last 15 years learning every angle of the real estate and forest industry. Cole is a member of the Florida Forestry Association, Red Hills Quail Forever, Southeastern Wood Producers Association and he uses this platform as an advocate for landowners and their land investments. His family has dedicated the past 60 years to providing landowners in North Florida and South Georgia with professional land management services focused on improving and protecting one’s forestland and wildlife investment. In fact, their family business, M.A. Rigoni, Inc., was one of the first to introduce whole tree chipping to the Red Hills Region.
