At the End of the Road, Behind the Pond, Bordered by Balfour Timber Property...
Located in Thomasville bordering one of Thomas County's largest landowners. This location is the epitome of everything that makes living in the Red Hills so great. Orchard Pine is a custom-built estate that carries a rare sense of warmth, character, and intention — set within a thoughtfully composed 10-acre landscape.
"For 35 years, I have walked properties across the Red Hills. Most “private” homes are not. They sit on 1-5 acres surrounded by ten more homes like them, with a developer’s plan filed somewhere down the road. Orchard Pine is different — and the difference is the kind that does not come back on the market often." — Jon Kohler
This is a 10-acre custom estate at the literal end of the road, with a 2.7 acre pond shielding the front and Balfour Land Company, one of the largest private landowners in Thomas County, bordering two sides. The adjacency is the protection. Balfour's professionally managed timberland is held for the long term, creating a buffer that no developer can undo.
This is the setting buyers search for and rarely find: a custom-built home with privacy, protection, and direct adjacency to large, professionally managed land. It is, in many ways, the epitome of what makes living in the Red Hills so desirable. Completed in 2023 and designed and built by a master craftsman with over 50 years' experience, every material, every finish, and every space reflect a lifetime of building knowledge — with an emphasis on local materials and time-tested construction. The result is a property that feels established from the moment you arrive. Orchard Pine is what someone with that much knowledge builds. The materials tell the story before the floor plan does.
“This is the epitome of privacy. Literally at the “end of the road” behind a pond on one side and two sides bordering (Balfour Land Company), one of the largest landowners in Thomas County.” — Jon Kohler, JD
“From the time you walk in the front door, you have a beautiful view straight through the back… all the way into the woods.” — Landowner
“If I had any age of my life that I could be at, it would be right now to stop. I love my life. I love that house. I love everything I’ve been able to do with it.”— Landowner
"We were looking for eight to 10 acres to build our dream home on. We wanted to be in a nice, secure, secluded area, but close enough to town that it wouldn't be so far out. We found this piece of property, and we looked at it, prayed about it, thought about it for a while, looked at it again, and decided to, yes, put in an offer. We bought the 10 acres that's on the backside of the lake, secluded from everybody else in the neighborhood, and that's where we wanted to look at building our dream home that we could retire in." — Landowner
Inside, the home unfolds with craftsmanship you can both see and feel. Immediately, you are greeted by double 6ft doors custom-built out of Mahogany imported from Brazil. The main living room opens with 10 ft vaulted ceilings, exposed Cedar beams, and a brick fireplace anchored by an antler chandelier, while oversized windows bring in natural light and frame the landscape beyond. A richly appointed study — wrapped in Southern Yellow Pine wood paneling with built-ins — immediately grounds the home in its setting.
"I’ve been in carpentry ever since I was 10 years old. I’ve done it all over the past 50 years of building. What I really love to build with is wood.”— Landowner
Wide Southern Yellow Pine wood-plank floors run throughout, while custom cabinetry and detailed millwork define each space. Ceiling treatments add depth and dimension, from exposed beams to detailed woodwork. The kitchen carries that same level of intention, with substantial custom cabinetry, a large gathering island, and professional-grade appliances, all opening into a window-lined dining area that captures soft light and views of the property.
The primary suite offers a quieter retreat. Its bathroom is a true standout, finished in marble with symmetrical vanities, a freestanding soaking tub, and dual walk-in showers — creating a space that feels more like a private spa than a residence. The home itself was built with an emphasis on efficiency and long-term livability, resulting in remarkably low operating costs for a home of this scale.
“This is the kind of place someone like me would build. Sourcing local woods, native landscaping, close to town but private.” — Jon Kohler, JD
"I can’t stand wasted square footage. No dead rooms, no dead spaces — and everybody has a beautiful view. I worked really hard to bring nature into the house.” — Landowner
Where Orchard Pine truly separates itself is in how it lives outdoors. The covered rear porch features a wood-burning fireplace and serves as a second living area for many months of the year. Beyond it, a thoughtfully designed entertaining area unfolds with a brick patio and custom-built cypress table beneath a timber pergola, creating a natural setting for a gathering, while a separate fire-pit area offers a place to end the day.

“First thing in the morning, I get up and sit on the back deck… I enjoy my alone time. The quiet, the nature... it takes me back to God.” — Landowner
The land is what anchors the property. Wiregrass ground cover, a 2.7± acre pond, and a natural creek system create both visual appeal and a direct connection to the Red Hills landscape. The pond is not just aesthetic — it’s actively enjoyed for fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The property has been maintained to balance natural beauty with usability, with trails throughout. Neighboring timberland — owned by one of the largest landowners in Thomas County — creates a natural buffer and long-term protection of the surrounding landscape.
"This is Classic Red Hills — with wiregrass in the backyard, meant to be burned, not mowed.” — Jon Kohler, JD
Architecturally, the home carries a timeless Southern presence, with cedar shake siding, brick accents, and inviting porches that reinforce its sense of place. A three-car garage adds both function and scale.
A buyer looking for 5-20 acres in Thomasville with real privacy, real craftsmanship, and bordered by a large landowner is searching for a property that almost never comes to market. Most of what is available is one of three things: new construction with no land, land without the house, or "private" that is not. Orchard Pine is all three at once, located just 6 miles from shopping and restaurants in downtown Thomasville, 5 miles from the airport, and just 32 miles from shopping and restaurants in Tallahassee's Bannerman Plaza.
"For location, it doesn't get any better than this. Thomasville. End of the Road. A pond in the front and one of the largest landowners in the county in the back. You can be at Jonah's or Kevin's in 14 minutes. What else can you ask for?" — Jon Kohler, JD

From its architectural detail to the way each space lives, Orchard Pine was thoughtfully planned, carefully built, and intentionally finished. Properties of this caliber — where craftsmanship, setting, and lifestyle align — are increasingly rare in the Red Hills.
“It was designed for that purpose — to be able to walk in and be at home and be able to say, ‘The cares of the world are no more.’”— Landowner

From murky farm ponds to pristine glacier-cut lakes and everything in between, Knox Daniels’ expertise stems from a lifelong fascination of water and the creatures that live in and around it. He recognizes and helps clients appreciate the value water features bring to a property. “My goal is to help buyers realize and sellers maximize the value different water bodies bring to a property, not only in a recreational sense, but also for social storm reasons.” After extensively traveling the country for collegiate BASS fishing tournaments, Knox graduated and worked for the Southeast’s finest fisheries and wildlife biologist, Greg Grimes. With Grimes’ company, AES, Knox managed many of the southeast’s finest private lake estate/impoundment properties, and learned the intricacies of upscale property management. Learning from Greg and other biologists, Knox honed in on the specific conditions and habitat needed for optimal gamefish growth in private lakes. He has also worked as a property manager on several thousand acres and for a commercial developer, facilitating the dirt work and builds of several apartment complexes, but his true passion has always been in the outdoors. “I’ve always had an insatiable fascination with ponds/lakes and am grateful to be able to help to place clients on the properties of their dreams and make their personal fisheries/wildlife goals reality with JKA.” – Knox Daniels
Jason has been assisting landowners for the last 28 years in Georgia and South Carolina obtain achievements the owners did not realize were possible. His degree in Biology from Georgia Southern stemmed from the desire to know how things in nature work. His plantation roots began at just 16 years old outside of Albany, GA and the last 20 years were spent in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. His entire career has been spent developing a global approach to plantation management. That plan included sales. Sales is in Jason’s blood- his mom had a 45-year career as a real estate broker. After college, he chose to pursue his passion of making properties great. In 2011, Jason sold his first plantation. Since then, he has assisted buyers and sellers with over $20 million in sales while most of that time working as a full-time General Manager of a large Lowcountry plantation. Today, he is committed to using his unique skill set and experience to guide landowners through the many challenges of plantation ownership.

Hailing from a long line of outdoorsmen, Tim learned a great deal from his father and grandfather. He saw first-hand what it means to be a good land steward. He believes land is so much more than a place to hunt, fish, and grow timber or crops. “It’s an identity, a resting place, a safe haven and a way of life, said Tim.” Tim’s family ties to Alabama run deep. During his grandfather’s first term, Governor James was responsible for signing into law Alabama’s first state duck stamp which helped to ensure funding for the procurement, development, and preservation of wetlands for migratory waterfowl habitat. He also established Alabama’s lifetime hunting license, so it is no surprise that Tim is an avid outdoorsman with a keen eye as to how best to improve habitat for the greater good of its wildlife.
With Madison County roots, Lori grew up on her family farm at Pettis Springs along the historic Aucilla River. A love of the land was instilled in Lori very early on by her father who was a local farmer. Lori understands the importance of good land stewardship and has witnessed first-hand how her own father, a former 2-term member of the Florida House of Representatives whose district encompassed many rural counties of the Red Hills Plantation Region, with a little bit of sweat equity, so lovingly worked their own family land. These are core values she carries with her today, and nothing gives her more personal satisfaction than to represent some of the south’s best land stewards.
